Lester did some reading about the why phase, and he says that this is a time of profound learning about the world, so I guess we should be thoughtful about our answers!
She has definitely been asking some deep questions lately. She asked me recently, "Do you have a mama, Mama?" I told her that my mother, her grandmother Elizabeth, had died a long time ago. Later that evening, she asked, "Mama, is Baba going to die?" Baba is Lester's mother. That question was followed by, "Am I going to die, Mama?" How does one talk about death with a 2 year old in ways that aren't scary and that will be meaningful to them? We're muddling through, but it's a bit intense not knowing when the next deep question is going to come out of the blue!
This new spurt of intellectual curiosity is being accompanied by a strengthening of will. Lately she has been more opinionated than ever, and even a bit naughty from time to time. She continues to delight us each day in so many ways, and we are adjusting to the new demands of parenting our 2.5 year old.
